The Society and Genetics Research Journal (SGRJ) is a student-led publication based at the Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) that publishes interdisciplinary work at the interface of science and society. The aim of the journal is to provide a platform for students to develop and publish their research in the life sciences, public policy, engineering, environmental studies, ethics, and history that critically engages with the social dimensions of scientific knowledge and discovery. SGRJ is committed to improving access to research spaces by showcasing student voices and making intersectional scholarship more accessible, inclusive, and engaging to a broad academic community.

SGRJ welcomes submissions that:

  • Examine the societal implications or environmental effects of human activity through a scientific and sociocultural lens

  • Analyze the bioethical dimensions of science and medicine

  • Contextualize scientific discoveries through the history of science and technology

  • Critique the political use or misuse of science in policy, media, or cultural discourse

Or otherwise propose innovative, well-reasoned perspectives at the interface of society, health, and science.
