SGRJ is an undergraduate student organization under the Institute of Society and Genetics (ISG). ISG faculty will periodically review SGRJ content to ensure publications are aligned with values of the institute.

Professor Christopher Kelty

Christopher M. Kelty is professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests center on social theory and technology, the cultural significance of information technology; the relationship of participation, technology and the public sphere.

​

Kelty is the author of the book Two Bits: The Cultural Significance of Free Software (Duke University Press, 2008), as well as numerous articles on open source and free software, including its impact on education, nanotechnology, the life sciences; participation as a political concept, open access in the academy, piracy, the history of software, and many other inadvisably diverse topics available on the Publications page.

Professor Patrick Allard

Dr. Allard received his B.Sc from University of Toulouse, France and his M.Sc in Biology of Aging from University of Paris – Rene Descartes. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Biology from the University of McGill, Canada and his post-doctoral fellowships in the laboratories of Dr Clifford Tabin and Dr Monica Colaiacovo in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.

His work resides at the intersection of genetics, developmental biology and environmental health. Dr. Allard’s research on the reproductive and transgenerational effects of environmental chemicals has been published in several high profile journals including Cell Reports, PNAS, PLOS Genetics, and Environmental Health Perspectives.

Wayne W. Grody, MD, PhD is a Professor in the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Pediatrics, and Human Genetics at the UCLA School of Medicine.

​

He is the director of the Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Laboratory within the UCLA Medical Center, one of the first such facilities in the country to offer DNA-based tests for diagnosis of a wide variety of genetic, infectious, and neoplastic diseases, as well as bone marrow engraftment, patient specimen identification and paternity testing by DNA fingerprinting.

Professor Christina Palmer

Christina Palmer is a genetic counselor who has been a UCLA faculty member since she joined the Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics and Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences in 1999. Dr. Palmer holds joint appointments in the Department of Human Genetics and in the UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics and is also a faculty member of the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program. She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling as a Genetic Counselor and specializes in genetic counseling for deafness, and for psychiatric conditions. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Genetic Counseling.

Dr. Palmer has written extensively on topics related to genetics, genetic counseling, genetic testing, and statistical genetics methods, including publications that specifically address genetic counseling, genetic testing, genetic evaluation, deafness, and health outcomes.
