SGRJ follows a collaborative editorial process that empowers student editors and trains new editors and authors to develop their publication objectives within their research. The review stages are:

  1. Submission

    • When submitting an article please include the author name(s), major(s), and year(s) in school along with your manuscript. If you are submitting as an external author (i.e. do not regularly attend SGRJ meetings) please also include a short cover letter (400-600 words) presenting your research

    • Submissions should be sent as a google document via our email: socgenjournal@gmail.com

  2. Pre-check

    • Each submission will be reviewed by the Managing Editor for

      • Fit within the journal's scope

      • Formatting and citation compliance

      • Clarity, organization, and language

      • Originality and ethical soundness

  3. Editorial Processing

    • Two editors will review each manuscript and will provide a short summary of the manuscript content, a filled out rubric, and comments with line structure regarding specific edits we would like you to make

  4. Editorial Decision

    • After reviewing the Student Editor’s assessment of the manuscript, the Student Managing Editor will issue one of four decisions:

      • Accept in Present Form – No further changes needed

      • Minor Revisions Required – Ready to publish after minor changes

      • Major Revisions Required – Needs significant changes, but considered promising

      • Reject – Only issued for submissions that:

        • Fall outside the journal's scope

        • Contain serious issues of plagiarism, fabrication, or ethical concern

        • Lack basic academic merit to undergo meaningful revision

  5. Revisions

    • Authors may revise based on editorial comments. A maximum of two rounds will be considered per submission

  6. Final Review

    • Revised submissions are read blindly by the Faculty Editor-in-Chief, who provides:

      • A final decision on publication

      • Optional comments for the author(s) and editors

  7. Production

  • After manuscript acceptance, the production team will adapt your manuscript to the journal's style and an editor will do a final revision. You will then be sent the manuscript for proofreading before publication. Please note this is the last chance for making any revisions.
